- Elektra Records were formed in 1950 by Jacques Holzman and Paul Rickhalt
- These two each invested $300 to get the record company started
- It is owned by Warner Music Group, a member of the big four record label company's.
- In 2004 it was consolidated into WMG's Atlantic Records Group
- Atlantic Records distribute in America, while Warner Music Group distribute internationally, so they cover a huge population with their items
- In the 1990s Eleketra saw a slump in revenue, while underperforming on the charts
- In 2004 the new owners of WMG decided to merge Elektra and Atlantic Records, which got the name Atlantic Records Group, as Elektra was the under-performer of the two
- In 2009 it was then revived and is now celebrating its 60th anniversary
